Mario Gila bids ‘painful’ farewell to Lazio after AC Milan move | OneFootball

Spanish centre-back Mario Gila has completed his move to AC Milan and delivered an emotional farewell to Lazio supporters on Friday evening.

According to The Laziali, Milan will pay €30 million, with Real Madrid due 50% of Lazio’s profit. The 25-year-old has signed a five-year deal worth a reported €4-5 million net per season.

Milan announced the deal on their website, with Lazio also confirming the move. Gila had been expected to depart this summer as his contract ran to next year, and a renewal with Claudio Lotito was seen as highly unlikely. Napoli and Atalanta pushed for him, but Milan trumped their bids.

Soon after, Lazio’s YouTube channel carried a message in which Gila thanked fans, team-mates, coaches and staff, as well as his family. He reflected on arriving as a youngster, said the club could achieve greater things, and called the city unforgettable. The goodbye, he said, was painful.

Lazio said he leaves after 120 appearances and two goals across four years. The video showed him fighting back tears as he closed that chapter, signing off with a pledge of lifelong support.
