Olympique de Marseille are in active discussions with Portugal international Nelson Semedo (31) over a free transfer, according to a report from Foot Mercato journalist Sébastien Denis. Following an agreement in principle with Lille midfielder Angel Gomes, OM are now pursuing another player out of contract at the end of June. Semedo’s deal with Wolverhampton Wanderers expires on June 30 and despite efforts from the Premier League club to extend his stay, a return to mainland Europe is on the cards. The former Barcelona and Benfica right-back has been a regular at Wolves since joining in 2020 for €32m. Semedo made 34 Premier League appearances this season, providing four assists. His pace, dribbling and stamina have reportedly caught the attention of Marseille’s new sporting advisor Medhi Benatia and club president Pablo Longoria.Wolves have offered Semedo a contract renewal on improved terms and are keen to retain him as a first-team regular. Additionally, Benfica – where Semedo came through the ranks – are monitoring the situation and interested in bringing him back to Lisbon.Talks with Semedo are ongoing, and a decision is expected soon – though international commitments with Portugal in the UEFA Nations League may briefly delay proceedings.GFFN | George Boxall
