Former Manchester United star Mason Greenwood has continued to shine away from Old Trafford.

Left under a cloud

The Englishman has impressed ever since breaking through from the academy in 2019, scoring 35 goals in 129 appearances for Manchester United.

Greenwood was shockingly charged with criminal offences in early 2022 and never played for Manchester United again.

Whilst the case was thrown out, there was no way back for him and he was sold to Olympique de Marseille in 2024 after a loan spell at Getafe the season before.

The 24-year-old has had a stunning first season in France, scoring 22 goals in all competitions.

Greenwood is well on course to beat this record this season, as he is going from strength to strength in Ligue 1. The Bradford-born star has scored a remarkable 14 goals in 21 matches and provided four assists.

Transfer interest

His form has not gone unnoticed, as Atletico Madrid are said to be keen on his services.

What’s more, Saudi Arabian side Neom are reportedly prepared to offer an eye-watering amount for the Carrington product. Nonetheless, The Daily Mirror quotes French media that claim the player is now “indispensable” for the French side and is going nowhere anytime soon.

Greenwood was at his best again at the weekend, when his fine strike sealed a priceless 1-0 victory over AS Monaco. Le Figaro characterised his performance as “lively at times, then quiet, the English striker once again produced a moment of brilliance to rescue his team.”

Le Phoceen also added, “another commanding performance from Greenwood, who played with the impression that he could decide the fate of a play at will.”

Outlet Le Meridionel also described the player as “unstoppable” in what is becoming a regular trend in France.

In fact, his boss Roberto De Zerbi has even tipped him to be a candidate to win the Ballon d’Or, owing to his fine form.
