The Premier League have now confirmed the team of match officials to oversee proceedings in Manchester City’s final game of the 2025/26 season.
Despite ambitions of taking the title race into the final weekend of the campaign, Pep Guardiola’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth in midweek courtesy of a sensational Eli Junior Kroupi strike and an Erling Haaland equaliser.
More dropped points for City meant the Premier League title was mathematically handed to Mikel Arteta and Arsenal, sparking jubilant scenes across North London throughout the night.
That result on the south coast also came off the back of a staggering flurry of reports suggesting that manager Pep Guardiola had made a decision to end his 10-year stay as Manchester City head coach.
Discussions surrounding the future of the Catalan coach have continued throughout the week, with the feeling in various quarters being that the club’s former assistant Enzo Maresca is due to become City’s new manager in due course.
But before any managerial changes at the Etihad Stadium, and ahead of the meeting between Manchester City and Aston Villa, the Premier League have announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Etihad Stadium.
Overseeing events from the centre of the pitch on the final day of the Premier League weekend will be referee Andy Madley, taking on his 29th match across all competitions this season.
During the campaign, the 42-year-old has officiated on the English top-flight, Championship, international friendlies, UEFA Champions League qualification, League One, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and the Championship play-offs.
In those 28 games this season, Madley has issued a total of 88 yellow cards with none of those leading to a second yellow card dismissal, whilst handing out seven straight red cards and awarding nine penalties.
Throughout his professional officiating career, Madley has been involved in Manchester City matches on 16 previous occasions, with 12 of those resulting in a win for the sky blues and two ending in a draw.
Andy Madley has officiated City twice this season, with both games ending in a win for the club; the 3-0 victory over Sunderland in early December and the 0-1 away win at Burnley in late April.
Supporting Andy Madley on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium this weekend will be an assistant referee duo of Richard West and Simon Long, the Premier League have confirmed in their appointments list.
Monitoring the contest from the VAR Hub at Stockley Park on Sunday afternoon will be the Video Assistant Referee Jarred Gillet, supported by Assistant Video Assistant Referee, Tim Wood.
Standing between the two dugouts and managing events concerning Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Aston Villa manager Unai Emery will be referee David Webb, positioned in the role of fourth official.
