Atlético Madrid have spent heavily under Mateu Alemany, and a significant sale could now arrive as substitute Thiago Almada is back on the market.
TyC Sports reports that Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia are offering about 30 million euros for the Argentine, who joined from Botafogo for 21 million and struggled to convince.
Across the past two seasons Atlético have invested 419 million euros in signings and raised 260 in sales. Alemany’s first year brought a 231 outlay, second only to the 247 of 19/20, when João Félix cost 127.
Last summer ushered in another sweep of additions, including Baena, Lookman, Hancko, Johnny Cardoso, Raspadori, Almada, Ruggeri, Mendoza and Pubill. Game time varied, and Raspadori left in winter for the same 22 million fee. Others will depart soon, on loan or sold.
Almada’s career has involved rapid moves for big sums. Atlanta paid 14.5 million euros to Vélez, then Botafogo spent more than 24, loaned him to Lyon within months and sold him to Atlético at the end of his first season.
Meanwhile, the Valencia academy graduate Kang In Lee has impressed internationally, strengthening Simeone and Alemany’s belief. Any negotiation with PSG looks complicated, yet Atlético see him as a strategic chance after Bernardo Silva moved out of reach for good.
