Matias Soulé issues seven-word update as £30m Sunderland chase develops | OneFootball

Matias Soulé has cast fresh doubt on his Roma future, offering a seven-word response when asked if he would remain: “Will I stay? Honestly, I don’t know.”

According to Sunderland Echo, the 23-year-old winger had just returned to Italy for pre-season when questioned at the airport. He said he had only just arrived and declined to send a message to supporters.

His remarks come amid Sunderland’s interest, with Régis Le Bris seeking to strengthen the right side of his attack.

His agent, Martin Guastadisegno, is reported to have travelled to England for talks with Sunderland and Fulham. Roma are understood to want around €35million, roughly £30million, with his book value about €15.5million.

An approach from Sunderland would be seriously considered by Soulé, who is attracted by the prospect of the Premier League. Sunderland can also offer Europa League football after finishing seventh last season, although Fulham and others remain in the frame.

Soulé joined Roma from Juventus two summers ago in an initial €26million deal, around £22million, after they beat Leicester City to his signature. He made 41 appearances last season, scoring seven goals with eight assists as Roma booked a Champions League return. Sunderland transfer chief Florent Ghisolfi previously helped to bring him to Roma, a connection that could aid any move.
