Lazio head coach Maurizio Sarri and the club’s sporting director, Angelo Fabiani, have different opinions when it comes to Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and his squad status.

Lazio Facing Immense Midfield Emergency

The Nigerian picked up an injury during the Derby della Capitale defeat to Roma, which will keep him out of action for around one month. Moreover, Nicolo Rovella is still struggling with a groin issue, while Matteo Guendouzi (2 matches) and Reda Belahyane (1 match) earned suspensions after being sent off.

Toma Basic Will Return to Lazio Squad

Due to the major midfield crisis, Toma Basic will be reintegrated ahead of Monday’s away fixture against Genoa, but it remains to be seen which player will make way. Manuel Lazzari was initially considered the obvious choice due to his injury and the fact that Lazio have two other right-backs (Marusic and Hysaj) in the squad, but Sarri is not so sure anymore.

According to Il Messaggero, the manager is seriously considering dropping Dele-Bashiru from the squad instead of Lazzari. The 24-year-old is expected to recover from his injury for the clash against Atalanta on October 19. However, Sarri was already planning to replace him with Basic ahead of the African Cup of Nations in December.

It should also be noted that Serie A clubs can only make two changes to their squad list ahead of January, which makes it a delicate choice. The source also adds that Sarri hasn’t been too impressed by Dele-Bashiru, despite being a starter in every Lazio game thus far this season. Nevertheless, the Manchester City youth product still has a staunch supporter in Fabiani, who has always defended him.

The sporting director even clashed heads with Marco Baroni last season when the former Lazio manager voiced his dissatisfaction with the player’s performances. Therefore, Fabiani won’t be in favor of omitting his pupil from Sarri’s plans until January, so it remains to be seen if this situation will prompt a crack in the relationship between the two men.
