Memphis close to two-year Corinthians renewal, return to Brazil and medicals due | OneFootball

Corinthians are close to sealing a two-year renewal with Memphis, pending final paperwork and his return to Brazil for medical tests.

According to Globo.com, the plan was to sign on Tuesday and fly him to São Paulo on Wednesday, though that could change as flights are yet to be issued. He has been on holiday in the Netherlands.

On arrival he will undergo examinations before the deal is ratified. Some councillors and allies of president Osmar Stabile are wary of his condition, citing his injury record and limited action this year for club and the Netherlands at the World Cup.

Memphis’s representatives insist he is fit and could be available to Fernando Diniz immediately. They add he could even feature in Sunday’s Copa do Brasil last-16 first leg at Internacional at 19:30, at Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre.

Club staff regard that timeline as premature, saying it depends on his return, the contract being finalised and his reporting to CT Joaquim Grava for training.

He maintained a fitness programme during the post-World Cup break, including work with former Corinthians fitness coach Diego Pereira, yet the view internally is that he still needs match reconditioning under Diniz.

Memphis has made 14 appearances this year, with one goal and one assist. The new agreement will pay far less than the deal signed in September 2024 that ends on Friday and will settle a R$ 42 million debt in four instalments of R$ 10.5 million every six months, starting in February 2027.

He wanted three years to reduce instalments, but the board stuck to two.
