Memphis Depay ended Corinthians’ two-match scoring drought in a 1-1 draw with Santos at Vila Belmiro on Sunday, in the sixth round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

It was their first goal since last month’s 1-1 at Cruzeiro at the Mineirão, when João Pedro Tchoca scored from a Rodrigo Garro corner.

Between those draws, Corinthians failed to score in the 1-0 Paulista semi-final defeat to Novorizontino, then lost 2-0 to Coritiba in the league.

Had they failed to score on Sunday, it would have marked their worst sequence in almost a year. In May 2025 they drew 0-0 with Atlético Mineiro and Vitória in the league, and lost 1-0 to Huracán in the Sudamericana.

This season Corinthians have played 17 matches and scored 19 goals, an average of about 1.12. They have drawn blanks only four times, in defeats to Red Bull Bragantino 3-0, Palmeiras 1-0, Novorizontino 1-0 and Coritiba 2-0.

Top scorer Yuri Alberto has not featured since 15 February. He suffered a grade 2 left hamstring injury in the win over São Bernardo, the final round of the Paulista first phase.

Depay has not been in his best form and this was his first goal of 2026, arriving in the clássico with Santos.

Corinthians now travel to Santa Catarina to face Chapecoense on Thursday at 21:30 at Arena Condá, in another Brasileirão round.
