Memphis Depay was injured just before halftime in Corinthians’ cup match against Athletico Paranaense on Wednesday night. The severity of the injury is not yet known, although Brazilian media reports indicate it is a thigh injury.

Corinthians coach Dorival Júnior couldn’t provide a definitive answer after the match. Speaking at the press conference, he explained, “He felt something. I hope it’s nothing serious and that he returns as soon as possible.”

This clash saw Corinthians aiming for a place in the Copa do Brasil semi-finals. The São Paulo club successfully defended a 1-0 lead from the first leg. They won 2-0 at home thanks to goals from Rodrigo Garro and Gui Negao. Depay was only on the pitch for the first goal.

Of course, Depay was crowned the Dutch national team’s all-time top scorer on Sunday against Lithuania (2-3 victory). Before the Athletico match, Corinthians honoured the striker’s international record with a shirt with the number 52 on the back.
