Memphis Depay has suffered new calf pain and will miss Corinthians’ Libertadores match at Peñarol in Montevideo on Thursday at 21:30 Brasília time.

Recovered from a right thigh injury, he had targeted a return this week, but the setback in transition work at CT Joaquim Grava delays it, Meu Timão reports.

After this fixture he has only two games left before his contract ends on 20 June, Atlético-MG on Sunday and Platense on 27. He remains a doubt and will be assessed daily.

He was not set to be available for Grêmio on 30, the last match before the World Cup pause. If called up, he would report to Ronald Koeman the same day in Porto Alegre.

It is almost two months since his last outing, a substitution on 22 March against Flamengo in the league, and he has missed 14 games. Three weeks after Corinthians began his physical transition, there has been no stated progress and he still has not trained with the ball.

Calf pain has further delayed a comeback that had already been pushed back in April after a fitness staff error. With the World Cup approaching, the club are taking extra care.

Depay has featured in 12 of Corinthians’ 33 matches this year, registering one goal and one assist. His future remains unresolved, with a renewal under discussion and the forward open to a lower salary.
