Lionel Messi has committed his future to Inter Miami by signing a fresh multi-year contract, according to reports from the Miami Herald.

The deal comes after drawn-out discussions that lasted several months. It will keep the Argentine forward at the club until the closing years of his career.

The agreement arrives just half a year before the scheduled unveiling of Miami Freedom Park, the new stadium being built near Miami International Airport.

Messi is also preparing to lead Argentina in their attempt to retain the World Cup. The tournament will be staged across the United States, Mexico and Canada in 2026.

Messi’s influence on and off the field

Messi moved to Inter Miami in July 2023 and his current contract was set to end later this season. His salary for the year stood at 20.45 million dollars.

The initial package, valued between $130 and $150 million, also included a shareholding in the club upon his retirement.

The forward has been decisive for Miami this campaign. He has 20 goals and 11 assists in 21 league matches, including a standout display against Seattle Sounders, where he both scored and set up a goal. Across all competitions in 2025, he has produced 28 goals and 13 assists.

His displays last season earned him the league’s Most Valuable Player award as Miami recorded their best season yet.

The financial transformation since his arrival has been remarkable. In 2022, Inter Miami made between 50 and 60 million dollars in revenue.

That figure rose to around 120 to 130 million dollars in 2023, and this year the club is forecasted to approach 300 million dollars.

Crowd numbers, ticket prices, sponsorship agreements and merchandise sales have all risen sharply, underlining the scale of Messi’s influence.

By signing a new deal, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has ensured his bond with Inter Miami and Major League Soccer will continue well into the future.
