One more game, another record. Just another chapter in the remarkable career of Lionel Andrés Messi.
The Argentine captain became the first player in World Cup history to score in seven consecutive tournament matches, surpassing the previous record of six shared by Jairzinho and Just Fontaine.
Although he started on the bench and only entered for the final 30 minutes, Messi still made his mark. In the 80th minute, he curled a superb direct free-kick beyond the Jordan goalkeeper to cap another memorable display.
The strike also earned him another place in the record books. Messi is now one of only five players to have scored two direct free-kicks at World Cup finals, joining Pelé, Roberto Rivellino, Bernard Genghini and David Beckham.
Messi has now scored six goals during this year's group stage, adding to the record he extended in Argentina's second match. His overall World Cup tally has reached 19 goals, further strengthening his position as the competition's all-time leading scorer.
The records continue to fall, but for Messi, making history has become almost routine.
