Lionel Messi met Mexican actor Carlos Villagrán, best known as “Quico”, at Inter Miami’s training complex, and footage of the moment quickly went viral.

The 82-year-old had been at the stadium days earlier for the Florida derby against Orlando City and publicly said he wanted to meet Argentina’s captain. According to SuperDepor.com, the club then arranged the meeting at its facilities.

Villagrán appeared visibly moved, hugged the Rosario-born forward and expressed his admiration. He said he did not want to die without shaking Messi’s hand, and Messi responded with a smile and thanks.

The world champion also signed an Inter Miami No 10 shirt personalised with “Quico”. The image was shared by Villagrán’s wife, Becky Palacios.

The encounter brought together two popular figures from different generations, a global football icon and a beloved character of Latin American television. Images of their exchange drew thousands of reactions and comments across social media.
