The Mexican National Team that will compete in the 2026 World Cup is finally starting to take shape after the Federation’s Sporting Directorate released the preliminary 55-man roster submitted to FIFA on Tuesday — because apparently narrowing it down to 26 players all at once would’ve been too easy.
The squad was selected by head coach Javier Aguirre and represents the first filter before the final roster is announced for the tournament.
The list includes a mix of World Cup veterans, Europe-based players, Liga MX standouts, and a few names that probably made fans double-check the graphic to make sure it wasn’t fake.
Mexico’s final 26-man roster will be announced on June 1, just days before El Tri opens the World Cup against South Africa on June 11 at the Estadio Azteca.
The preliminary list did not feature many major surprises: unless you count the absence of Hirving Lozano, who currently does not have a club, or Rodrigo Huescas, who failed to recover in time from a torn ACL. Both were left watching from home while Mexico somehow still found room for 55 names.
Goalkeepers:Alex Padilla, Antonio Rodríguez, Carlos Acevedo, Carlos Moreno, Guillermo Ochoa and Raúl Rangel.
Defenders:Bryan González, César Montes, Edson Álvarez, Eduardo Águila, Everardo López, Israel Reyes, Jesús Angulo, Jesús Gallardo, Jesús Gómez, Johan Vásquez, Jorge Sánchez, Julián Araujo, Luis Rey, Mateo Chávez, Ramón Juárez, Richard Ledezma and Víctor Guzmán.
Midfielders:Alexei Domínguez, Alexis Gutiérrez, Álvaro Fidalgo, Brian Gutiérrez, Carlos Rodríguez, Denzell García, Diego Lainez, Efraín Álvarez, Elías Montiel, Erick Sánchez, Erik Lira, Gilberto Mora, Isaías Violante, Jeremy Márquez, Jordan Carrillo, Jorge Ruvalcaba, Kevin Castañeda, Luis Chávez, Luis Romo, Marcel Ruiz, Obed Vargas, Orbelín Pineda and Ricardo Angulo.
Forwards:Alexis Vega, Armando González, César Huerta, Germán Berterame, Guillermo Martínez, Julián Quiñones, Raúl Jiménez, Roberto Alvarado and Santiago Giménez.

Up next, Mexico will face Ghana on May 22 in Puebla, Australia on May 30 in Pasadena, and Serbia on June 4 in Toluca in its final three friendlies before opening the World Cup at the Estadio Azteca — where expectations are sky high and pressure is unavoidable.
