Michael Olise has addressed France supporters two weeks after the 0-2 World Cup semi-final defeat to Spain, expressing disappointment at falling short. The player said in an Instagram post that failing to bring the trophy home was a major regret.
In his first World Cup, the Bayern Munich winger did not score but became the tournament's leading provider, setting a single-edition record with seven assists.
He called the ending not how the squad had envisaged when the tournament began, and admitted falling short of the final was painful.
Even so, he described wearing the France shirt at a World Cup as a lifelong dream and said he was proud of that achievement. He hopes to bring more joy and unforgettable memories to supporters in the years ahead.
Olise also thanked Didier Deschamps for handing him his first cap and for backing him during difficult moments, saying he would always be grateful. He wished the coach well whatever path he chooses, and signed off by thanking France.
