Michael Olise put France ahead on 43 minutes, turning in after Ousmane Dembélé’s shot was deflected by a defender, in Monday’s friendly against Northern Ireland in Villeneuve-d’Ascq.
The opener capped a subdued first period. L'Équipe notes the fixture formed part of France’s build-up to the 2026 World Cup.
The move began with a long pass in behind from Dayot Upamecano to Désiré Doué.
Doué, a double European champion with PSG, controlled and picked out his club colleague Dembélé. A block diverted Dembélé’s shot into the path of Olise, the Bayern Munich player, who finished from close range.
It was Olise’s fifth goal for France, and his first since November’s 4-0 win over Ukraine, which officially secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
