Micky van de Ven hits out at ‘nonsense’ claims | OneFootball

Micky van de Ven says claims the Tottenham players “don’t care” about the situation the club is in are “nonsense”.

Tottenham’s draw with Liverpool on Sunday still only leaves them a point above the Premier League relegation zone with eight games to play, while they trail 5-2 to Atletico Madrid in their Champions League round of 16 tie.

But the Spurs defender has hit out at some recent reports ahead of his side’s Champions League round of 16 second-leg clash.

“Of course I’ve seen things. It’s not something I look at a lot, to be honest, but reporters say stuff and it’s like how do you even come up with this? That players are switched off or don’t care about the situation right now,” van de Ven said.

“All I can say is it’s not true. It would be strange if a player was in the dressing room now and saying I’m going to leave or I’m not going to focus on the situation because everything that is going to happen doesn’t affect me.

“It’s just nonsense. People start believing it and it’s the biggest nonsense. Everyone is focused on what’s ahead and in front of us.

“Sometimes we read things and the players are just like, what is this? The other day we read something about the one guy who said to everyone that he’s probably going to leave and doesn’t care about the situation their in.

“How does this come out? People just making things up and it’s frustrating for us as well because it brings so much more trouble because the fans are starting to believe this, that the guys don’t care anymore about what’s going to happen at the club, about the situation.

“Trust me, all the people involved in the situation on the pitch, the staff, the players, they care so much about the situation we’re in right now and we just want to turn things around.

“That’s the main focus for everyone and if some reports say guys don’t care anymore, it’s just frustrating for our guys.”
