Arsenal completed the Italian job at the San Siro, setting a Champions League record with a 3-1 victory over Inter Milan.

Two first-half finishes from Gabriel Jesus and a stunning strike from Viktor Gyökeres powered Arsenal past Inter Milan at the San Siro, securing Mikel Arteta’s side’s longest-ever winning streak in the UEFA Champions League.

Inter responded through a superb Petar Sučić effort before the break, but Arsenal held firm to record their seventh consecutive victory in the competition.

The result confirmed a new club record for consecutive Champions League wins, underlining Arsenal’s impressive European campaign.

As it happened

A new-age clash of the titans: Arsenal seven points clear at the top of the Premier League, while the hosts, Inter, are three points ahead of their arch-rivals, AC Milan. Two of the most prestigious clubs, in one of, if not, the most competitive competition.

On paper, the game looked to be full of enthusiasm and class, and it delivered accordingly.

Arsenal’s build-up for their opener in the 10th minute oozed confidence with slick one-touch passing inside Inter’s box, and despite Justin Timber’s scuffed shot not being what the full-back was hoping for, Jesus came to the rescue when he latched onto the end of the effort.

Cristian Chivu’s side came up with a response eight minutes later when Sučić’s powerful effort found the top corner.

Set pieces worked in favour of the Gooners for the 19th time this season. After Leandro Trossard’s initial header deflected off the crossbar, Jesus was in the perfect position to nod in his second goal of the evening from close range.

However, the Italian side continued to build, and Federico Dimarco forced David Raya into action when the Spaniard made two consecutive saves on his near post.

Fifteen minutes after the restart, Bukayo Saka’s teasing cross presented a golden opportunity for Trossard to give Arteta’s side a two-goal advantage, his volley whistled past Yann Sommer’s post.

Alessandro Bastoni’s last-gasp challenge on the hour mark got the home supporters off their feet. For a brief moment, Saka looked destined to get Arsenal’s third goal of the evening before the Italian came flying in to deny him.

Substitute Pio Esposito looked lively for the hosts and created two fantastic chances, but failed to trouble Raya with either attempt.

Gyokeres’ curled effort eventually sealed the third goal that Arsenal was searching for and completed a comfortable victory in Milan.
