Milan fans didn’t hide their discontent at the end of their side’s 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Liverpool on their Champions League debut on Tuesday, as they urged their players to “show some balls”.

Paulo Fonseca’s side took the lead early in the first half through Christian Pulisic but were left helpless as the Reds fought back and completed the comeback within 41 minutes, before adding a third after the break, piling more misery on Milan’s poor start to the season.

The Rossoneri got their first and only win of the season so far last weekend against Venezia in Serie A, but they proved unable to build on that victory as Liverpool’s reaction to falling behind left them stunned, with all their limitations being once again exposed.

The final whistle was welcomed with heavy boos from the San Siro crowd and, notably, the Curva Sud, who immediately started to sing “Show some balls” with the home players still on the pitch.

Other Milan fans had already left the stadium before the final whistle.

Football Italia was among the accredited media at San Siro.

Abraham and Calabria encouraged their teammates to join them under their fans’ section, but others, including Rafael Leao, went straight inside the tunnel.

The Curva Sud chant went on for at least a couple of minutes, probably an attempt to spark a reaction in their players ahead of a delicate Serie A weekend. Milan will face city rivals Inter in a highly-anticipated Derby della Madonnina, a fixture that the Rossoneri last won in September 2022.
