Milan are still paying a €4m-per-season contract to forgotten former Liverpool cult hero Divock Origi, who has not been seen at the club’s training ground since the beginning of the 2024-25 campaign.
Origi, who was part of Liverpool’s Champions League winning squad in 2018-19 and the Premier League winning side in 2019-20, left Anfield at the end of the 2021-22 season and joined Milan on a four-year contract running until the summer of 2026.
The 32-time Belgium international failed to live up to expectations during his first season in San Siro, netting twice from 36 appearances across all competitions in 2022-23, largely from the substitutes bench.
He was then loaned back to the Premier League to join Nottingham Forest for 2023-24, but failed to score a single goal from 20 appearances in the top flight.

Since then, the ex-Liverpool favourite has been out of the first-team project at Milan. Zlatan Ibrahimovic declared at the beginning of the season that Origi and Fode Ballo-Toure would play for the Milan Futuro side in Serie C as opposed to the first-team under then-head coach Paulo Fonseca.
However, Origi has not yet made a single appearance for Milan Futuro this season, and has not been involved in first-team training at any stage of the 2024-25 season.
He is still under contract, and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan are still holding up their end of the €4m-per-season deal, but are expected to seek a termination of the player’s contract in the near future.
Tuesday’s report suggests that Milan will need to offer a compensation package in order to pay Origi out of his current contract, unless a new buyer steps forward, which La Gazzetta dello Sport describes as ‘sounding like the plot of a SciFi movie’.
