Serie A side Milan are now very likely to leave Rafael Leao in the summer, with the player having made his stance about a transfer clear.
It was previously suggested that the attacker could end up considering a stay. In fact, he had informed Zlatan Ibrahimovic about the intention to fight for his place and put last season behind him. But his words yesterday demonstrate his true desire to leave and seek a new challenge.
La Gazzetta dello Sport note that the Portugal international would only join a top league. This means he will reject moves to Saudi Arabia or even to Turkey. Both Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are interested in him but the player is unlikely to consider their advances.
He is keen on a move to the Premier League – particularly to Manchester United. He made his liking for them clear earlier in the week, describing himself as a fan.
At the same time, Manchester United are interested but haven’t made a formal move. Barcelona remain in the background, having previously made contact in the distant past but they never quite progressed either. No offers are on the table yet, with Milan happy to accept around €60 million to execute his sale.
It does seem like Leao hasn’t attracted the sort of suitors Milan expected as no clubs have advanced in talks so far. This means Jorge Mendes has quite a bit of work to do and it won’t be a surprise if clubs that are closest to the super-agent can be pushed into deals. These include Manchester United and Barcelona themselves but Paris Saint-Germain also deal closely with the Portuguese and so do Manchester City.
