Inter Miami are willing to rival interest from the Saudi Pro League in Mohamed Salah with a proposal that could see the Egyptian partner Lionel Messi in the MLS following his departure from Liverpool.

Salah, 33, will leave Liverpool as a free agent reaching an agreement to part ways at the end of the season. Salah’s salary is the highest in the Liverpool squad but his diminished output this campaign has led to both sides announcing the news at the “earliest possible opportunity”.

The Saudi Pro League have been desperate for the Egyptian to come for three years - with a £150m deadline-day offer offer from Al Ittihad rejected by Liverpool in September 2023 - and Al Hilal have been broached as a potential destination.

However, it is understood by The Independent that Inter Miami are willing to make Salah an offer, in a move that would requiring a reshuffle of their squad as they have no available Designated Player (DPs) places.

MLS clubs are allowed up to three high-profile whose total costs exceed the league’s salary cap. These are currently held by Messi, his former Argentina team-mate and World Cup winner Rodrigo de Paul, and Mexico international German Berterame.

There is also the possibility that Messi, 38, only does one more year at Inter Miami, following this summer’s World Cup which will be played in the United States as well as co-hosts Mexico and Canada.

Salah's performances this season has been one of many factors in Liverpool's considerable drop-off, and a recent run of two defeats and a draw in their last three Premier League games has provoked more debate about head coach Arne Slot's future.

A statement from Liverpool said: “Mohamed Salah is to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season. The forward has reached an agreement with the Reds that will see him close a remarkable nine-year chapter at Anfield.

“Salah expressed his wish to make this announcement to the supporters at the earliest possible opportunity to provide transparency about his future due to his respect and gratitude for them.”

Meanwhile, The Independent has reported that the Saudi Pro League are targeting both Michael Edwards and sporting director Richard Hughes from Liverpool this summer. Hughes is known to be seen as an ideal candidate for Al Hilal's recruitment roles.
