TSN and The Athletic report that Moïse Bombito will be forced to withdraw from the World Cup, which runs from 11 June to 19 July, but Canada head coach Jesse Marsch says no final decision has been made.
Marsch said the defender remains with the squad and is managing lingering recovery issues, and that he will be given until the very last minute to prove he is 100 percent.
Bombito continues to struggle with his left tibia and has featured only twice for Nice this season after repeated injuries.
He won his 20th cap in a 2-0 friendly win over Uzbekistan on 2 June, looked off the pace and was substituted in the 31st minute.
Canada will play all three Group B matches at home in Toronto and Vancouver, starting Friday at 21:00 against Bosnia and Herzegovina. They have until Thursday, 24 hours before kick-off in their opener, to name a replacement in their 26-man squad if required.
