AS Monaco are seeking another centre-back before the window closes after fresh injuries in defence.

L’Équipe reports that the Principality club held brief talks to sign Manchester City's Nathan Aké, 30. He is not expected to move to the Stade Louis II and discussions were quickly abandoned.

A defender had already arrived this month, with Wout Faes joining on loan from Leicester City after Mohammed Salisu sustained an ACL injury.

Faes was then injured at the weekend, coming off in the first half of Saturday’s goalless draw against Le Havre AC with an ankle problem that is likely to sideline him for several weeks.

He was replaced by Eric Dier, whose minutes were being managed following his own recovery from injury. Dier also failed to finish, departing with a hamstring issue and, like Faes, is expected to be out for several weeks.

Recruiting a centre-back has therefore become a priority for CEO Thiago Scuro.
