Pep Guardiola’s side made a winning start to their European campaign as they defeated Napoli 2-0 on Kevin De Bruyne’s return to the Etihad Stadium.

Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku were on the scoresheet that night as the Belgian endured a disappointing return, which culminated in him being hooked on 26 minutes after Giovanni Di Lorenzo was sent off.

Since then, the 2023 winners were held 1-1 by Arsenal, before sweeping Huddersfield Town aside in the League Cup.

They thrashed Burnley 5-1 last weekend to move up to 7th in the Premier League table.

Now, they face a side that got the better of them in this competition in 2017, when Kylian Mbappe led the charge as the Ligue 1 side emerged victorious in the last 16.

City came out on top in a rollercoaster first leg, winning 5-3, but they were defeated 3-1 at the Stade Louis II, as Mbappe notched the opener - his second of the tie - before former Liverpool and Chelsea midfielders Fabinho and Tiemoue Bakayoko turned the game in Monaco’s favour.

Since then, Monaco’s squad looks a bit different, but there are some notable names within it, including former Tottenham man Eric Dier and Paul Pogba, previously of Manchester United.

Monaco vs Man City team news

For City, Rodri is the biggest injury concern after pain in the Spaniard’s knee kept the midfielder out of the win over Burnley.

He could be in line for a return here, although Guardiola will want to ensure that he is fully fit before throwing him back in.

Abdukodir Khusanov is also out with an ankle injury, while Rayan Ait-Nouri, Omar Marmoush, and Rayan Cherki are all still sidelined with their respective knocks.

As for Monaco, they have four players who are doubts.

Denis Zakaria is out for another month with an abductor problem, while goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky is sidelined with a knee injury.

Aleksandr Golovin is missing with a hamstring injury, and Pogba has still not played for his new side since joining with question marks over his match fitness.

Monaco vs Man City prediction

While Monaco do have weapons that could hurt City - especially with the Premier League side’s defence not being as solid as in previous times - the English outfit should have enough to win here.

Monaco, led by Adi Hutter, are coming off the back of a 3-1 defeat by Lorient in the league, and they were thrashed 4-1 by Club Brugge in their Champions League opener.

City, even in second gear, should claim all three points.

Man City to win, 3-0.
