Jeremy Monga says he is “delighted” to be joining “the best club in England over the past 10 years” after Man City beat Arsenal to his signature.

The winger, who turned 17 on Friday, was the subject of interest from the Gunners and Brentford this summer after Leicester City were relegated from the Championship.

A number of Premier League clubs made enquiries about signing the youngster, but Arsenal appeared to be leading the race after entering talks with the Foxes.

Man City, however, swooped in at the 11th hour to sign the player for £10 million plus add-ons, a transfer fee that Arsenal were unwilling to pay.

Monga, who is the third-youngest player to ever play in the Premier League, has penned a five-year deal. He made 27 league appearances, eight of which starts, for Leicester last season, registering a goal and two assists.

“When I became aware that Manchester City were interested, I knew instantly this was the right choice for me,” Monga said.

“For any young footballer, to become part of this amazing club is a dream come true. This has been the best club in England over the past 10 years.

“And it has also handed opportunities to players from the academy like Phil Foden and Nico O’Reilly, which shows that the pathway is there.

“It is a privilege to be here, and I’m delighted to have joined.”
