According to Globo.com, Grêmio have confirmed that midfielder Monsalve sustained a grade one strain in his left hamstring during Wednesday’s match against Botafogo at the Arena.
The club have not given a recovery timeline. The expectation is that he could be sidelined for between one and three weeks.
Monsalve felt the problem in the first half and, in pain, was replaced by Willian on 47 minutes.
It was only his second appearance since returning from an ankle issue. He scored Grêmio’s goal in the 1-1 draw with Juventude at the Arena on Saturday.
The Colombian has battled injuries since last year, including a right shoulder dislocation in July. After around two months out, he was struck on the ankle by Gustavo Martins in training and suffered a bleed, which forced another spell on the sidelines. The most recent setback, an exacerbation of a right ankle ligament injury announced on 7 January, was managed conservatively instead of surgery and he returned to training after 15 days.
