Coming into the 2024-25 season, Paris Saint-Germain’s ability to replace Kylian Mbappé was a question. Nonetheless, one coach believes the capital club has improved since the 25-year-old’s departure.

Last season, Mbappé scored 44 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions for the reigning Ligue 1 champions. However, the Parisians are doing fine in the goal-scoring department this season.

In three Ligue 1 matches, Luis Enrique and his team have scored 13 goals, with Bradley Barcola having four goals already to his name. Ahead of the game against Stade Brestois on Saturday, manager Éric Roy noted that he sees a complete team without the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner.

“The fact that Kylian [Mbappé] left has actually brought the team closer together,” Roy said (h/t Le10Sport). “When a top player moves on, the team as a whole steps up and becomes more focused.

“Replacing someone who scores 50 goals a season isn’t easy, but if you have 4 or 5 players who can each score 10, you can make up for it. Right now, that’s what we’re seeing – a stronger, more cohesive team that plays together and gives opponents fewer chances to control the game.”

It will be interesting to see how this offensive production translates to the UEFA Champions League, which begins next week. PSG will welcome Spanish side Girona, who will face a third Spanish side in this competition in 2024 after facing Real Sociedad and FC Barcelona earlier in the year.
