Morgan Gibbs-White says England have the quality to win the World Cup after being left out of Thomas Tuchel’s squad, despite a 15-goal Premier League season with Nottingham Forest.

The former Wolves academy graduate, from Stafford, was sold to Forest for an initial 25m in 2022. The 26-year-old has six caps and made 88 appearances for Wolves.

He finished as the second-highest scoring Englishman in the league, behind Ollie Watkins, yet was omitted last week. The likes of Phil Foden and Cole Palmer were also overlooked after underwhelming domestic seasons, while Tuchel has been criticised for selecting 35-year-old Jordan Henderson.

“I was disappointed, really disappointed, but I was happy with the way I performed towards the end of the season,” he told Sky Sports News.

“I knew in myself I couldn’t do any more. Any kid’s dream growing up is to play at a World Cup or make a World Cup squad list.

“I’m wishing all the boys all the luck, all the best wishes, because this group, they are genuinely an incredible group of players. They’ve got everything they need to win it.”
