Florentino Pérez says he will confirm Real Madrid’s first major signing for the 26/27 season on Thursday, as presidential elections near and uncertainty around José Mourinho persists.

“This Thursday I will announce the first major signing for next season. Everyone knows my sporting project, to have the best players and keep winning,” said Florentino Pérez, speaking to El Español.

“If the other candidate says we are in debt and yet we are the richest club in the world, what can be said of the rest of Spain’s clubs? It is false that the Bernabéu redevelopment loan needs reassessing. It carries interest below 3% and is paid annually from stadium revenues,” he said.

“We pay about 60 million euros per year for the Santiago Bernabéu, but can do so because new seats alone generated around 150 million euros. I represent the members and defend their interests. I work every day to keep this heritage serving Real Madrid,” he added.

Elsewhere, a separate move that could directly affect Benfica is still to be made official. The agreement between Marco Silva and the club is fully closed, but his presentation remains dependent on events in Madrid.
