Real Madrid may have already completed four signings this summer, but the club’s transfer business is far from over.

After strengthening several areas of the squad with the arrivals of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries, attention has now shifted towards midfield, where new manager Jose Mourinho wants another key addition before the season begins.

In fact, according to MARCA, the Portuguese coach has made it clear that he wants a ‘Luka Modric type’ player in his team.

Mourinho wants a midfielder with Modric’s profile

Although Real Madrid are taking a brief pause in the market after an active start to the summer, recruitment work continues in the background.

On that note, Mourinho has specifically requested a midfielder with characteristics similar to Modric, a player capable of controlling the tempo, progressing possession under pressure and providing creativity from deeper areas of the pitch.

As a result, finding a footballer with that profile has become one of the club’s biggest objectives, with several names already been discussed.

Who are the targets?

Notably, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez remains admired at the Santiago Bernabeu, and Mourinho is understood to appreciate the Argentine’s qualities.

However, the financial demands surrounding any deal continue to make that operation extremely complicated, with his valuation expected to exceed €100 million.

Another player linked with Real Madrid is Mateus Fernandes, who has been monitored for some time as the club evaluates different midfield profiles, but he is likely to sign for either Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur.

More recently, Lille youngster Ayyoub Bouaddi has emerged as another option after impressing during the FIFA World Cup.

While the teenager is not currently viewed as the leading candidate, his performances have once again demonstrated why Real Madrid closely monitor major international tournaments when identifying emerging talent.

Real Madrid to evaluate midfield market

With the transfer window still in its early stages, Real Madrid are in no rush to finalise another deal.

Instead, the club is carefully analysing the market before deciding which profile best fits Mourinho’s tactical plans and the long-term evolution of the squad.

Right now, they have identified the profile they are looking for and once a few exits are confirmed, we can expect Real Madrid to make their move.
