Irvine is a long-standing advisor to Moyes, having been his assistant at Everton in his first spell in charge as well as at West Ham.

"Obviously, Alan is somebody who I have known for a very long time and have tremendous respect for," Moyes told the club's official website. "His knowledge of the game, as well as his understanding of what is required at Everton – a club that means a lot to both of us – will be invaluable.

Meanwhile, 39-year-old Charlie Adam retired from football after a spell at boyhood club Dundee, and his experience as a player is something that Moyes hopes to draw from.

"Charlie is someone I have had several chats with since rejoining the Club," the boss continued. "He will be helping with set-piece situations, an area he excelled in as a player and one I believe he can really help us with now as a coach."

The duo complete the backroom team alongside Billy McKinlay, who was part of Moyes' backroom team that helped West Ham to Europa Conference glory in 2023, and Leighton Baines, who Moyes has promoted from the role of U18s head coach.
