Mudryk free to return after WADA, FA resolve doping case | OneFootball

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk is free to resume his career with immediate effect after the Football Association and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) reached a resolution over his anti-doping case.

The 25-year-old has not featured for Chelsea since November 2024 after returning an adverse analytical finding for meldonium in an out-of-competition urine sample. Although he was handed a four-year ban by the FA earlier this year and appealed the sanction to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the disciplinary proceedings have now been formally concluded.

The FA confirmed Mudryk had accepted an anti-doping rule violation following the finding of a low concentration of meldonium. However, the governing body said the case had been resolved after changes to WADA’s scientific reporting standards meant that, if the same sample were analysed today, it would not have been reported as a positive test or resulted in an anti-doping violation.

The FA added that those revised reporting standards, together with “other circumstances of the case”, formed the basis of the agreed resolution, allowing Mudryk’s suspension to end immediately.

Reacting to the decision, the Ukraine international described the outcome as the end of the most difficult period of his career.

“After a long battle, the four-year ban that was imposed on me has been rescinded and I am free to resume my career with immediate effect,” Mudryk wrote on Instagram.

“I have never knowingly or intentionally taken any banned substance. My focus now is on returning to football, working hard every day, and making a positive contribution on the pitch.” Chelsea also welcomed the resolution, reiterating the club’s long-standing support for the winger throughout the process.

In a statement, the club said advances in WADA’s scientific reporting standards were an important factor in the outcome and confirmed its focus had now shifted to helping Mudryk reintegrate into the squad and resume his career.

The decision ends a lengthy period of uncertainty for the Ukraine international, who is now available for selection as Chelsea continue their preparations for the new season.
