Richard Hughes appears to have chosen Liverpool's next blockbuster signing. The Reds are readying a massive offer.
This time last year, Liverpool hadn’t paid more than £75m for a player. There were no nine-figure arrivals, despite all of their rivals paying at least that much for a player over the last few years.
But it all changed in 2025. Liverpool now boast two £100m+ signings as they broke their transfer record twice to sign Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.
Now, neither signing has worked out just yet. Liverpool have struggled to find consistency all season and that’s certainly affected their major signings.
At the same time, the Reds must believe in their ability to find elite quality and pay what it's worth. Wirtz and Isak will eventually find their feet - that’s inevitable.
And so their struggles aren’t going to deter Liverpool from spending again. It appears they’ve found their next nine-figure signing, too.
Several outlets are now reporting that Liverpool are readying a blockbuster offer to sign Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni. The Reds are certainly in the market for a new centre-back.
The plan was to have Marc Guehi on the books this season but the collapse of his transfer did leave things a little short. Giovanni Leoni’s injury exacerbated the problem - Liverpool have little choice but to sign someone.
And Bastoni would be one of the biggest possible signings. The Italian is a true world-beater and exactly the kind of player Liverpool can build a defence around.
