Iker Muniain will not take charge of San Lorenzo de Almagro and will remain at Salamanca UDS, after an administrative issue halted his move. According to El Correo, the former forward does not hold a Conmebol coaching licence.

He had been expected in Buenos Aires this week to lead El Ciclón, but the absence of the licence has prevented a return to his final club as a player. Muniain retired at San Lorenzo in June 2025 after nine months with the azulgrana.

After ending his playing career, the Txantrea native began coaching last season with Club Deportivo Derio in Tercera Federación. His side enjoyed a strong campaign before losing to Leioa in the play-off for promotion to Segunda Federación.

Those results earned him the Salamanca CF UDS job, announced on 15 June. Rumours then surged of a switch to San Lorenzo, widely treated as imminent in Argentina, unsettling supporters in Salamanca. Even a reported 100,000 euros release payment did not appear a barrier.

That anxiety has eased with San Lorenzo announcing Néstor 'Pipo' Gorosito on a 12-month deal. The 62-year-old is revered by their fans, having played there in three spells and coached the side in 2024. He has also managed Xerez, where he replaced 'Cuco' Ziganda, Almería, Olimpia of Paraguay and Alianza Lima.
