Jamal Musiala is back on the pitch – and is the center of attention at FC Bayern more than ever. Following his comeback, the 22-year-old not only plays a central role in sporting terms, but also symbolically: Musiala has been wearing the prestigious number 10 since January. The attacking player has now openly described what this means to him

In FC Bayern’s members‘ magazine „51“, Musiala talks about his new role and the expectations that come with it. „It has always been my dream to play for FC Bayern with the number 10,“ he says. At the same time, he makes no secret of the fact that this number is more than just a number on the shirt. He openly explains that he is aware of the additional pressure. He feels „the new pressure and responsibility“, but does not see it as a burden, but as motivation. Rather, the number gives him an „extra push“

He is aware of the history and significance of the number 10 at FC Bayern and in international soccer. Nevertheless, he does not want to be bent. „I got the number because I have delivered and performed over the years,“ he clarifies. Despite the new role, he does not want to change his style of play. „I will not change my style because of the number 10.“

Robben has had a particular influence on Musiala

The Bayern star does not describe himself as a classic old-style playmaker, but as a player who influences the game through dynamics, dribbling and spatial awareness. His strength lies in breaking up situations himself, breaking through lines and repeatedly occupying dangerous zones. This is precisely where he sees the modern interpretation of the number ten role

Musiala also looks back on role models, with Arjen Robben having a particular influence on him. The former Bayern star was his „great idol as a child“. This also explains Musiala’s understanding of responsibility: showing individual class, but always in the service of the team

Musiala sees the fact that FC Bayern and the DFB have entrusted him with this shirt number as a sign of trust. At the same time, he doesn’t want to be forced into historical comparisons, but wants to go his own way. „I play the way I play,“ he emphasizes.
