My favourite ever Newcastle United team – Including two greats

Artikelbild:My favourite ever Newcastle United team – Including two greats

Having supported Newcastle United for close to 70 years, I have seen some good players, some very good players and in my opinion, two great players.

There are also a canny few bad ones.

I will not mention any by name, because they pulled on the shirt and put in a shift… well some of them did!!!

Therefore, I am going to submit MY favourite Newcastle United team,

This is just my humble opinion, in a 3-5-2 formation.

Pavel Srnicek

This is a choice from the heart, rather than head.

We have had better keepers, but this man was a gem, having been in his company a few times,

A very good keeper and who can anyone forget the reception he got when he came on for an injured Shay Given?

He told me he had a lump in his throat… top man.

Glenn – A cultured footballer who served our club as player and manager, will always be remembered fondly.

John – A no nonsense hard man but could play the game.

Philippe – A footballing centre-back, great coming out of defence. Yes, that chip!!!

David Craig – George Eastham – Jim Iley – Ivor Allchurch – Alf McMichael

David and Alf – Great coming forward AND could tackle (something missing in today;s game), always showed the winger the line, not many cut inside with these boys.

George – I chose him over Tony Green only because he played in the era when football was a hard game and he was a gem of a player.

Jim – We got him from Forest, a skilful holding player who was underrated in my opinion, but he was a player.

Ivor – Great skills, he used to glide across the pitch.

Now we come to my two greats!

John Edward Thompson Milburn – Len White

Jackie was my hero growing up and will always be that.

Played nearly 400 games and scored 200 goals, they say you should never meet your heroes… WRONG.

I met him on a couple of occasions, what a wonderful man and a gentleman to boot.

Len is the most underrated footballer ever to play for our club.

What a wonderful little player he was, played 269 games and scored 153 goals, not a bad record.

He had the stature of Sergio Aguero and he could look after himself.

So there you go, my Newcastle United team.
