Nagelsmann refuses to quit after Germany’s World Cup humiliation against Paraguay | OneFootball

Julian Nagelsmann says he wants to carry on as Germany boss despite his side’s shock World Cup exit to Paraguay.

Germany were beaten on penalties after a 1-1 draw to exit the competition at the round of 32 stage.

But Nagelsmann says he will carry on if his bosses want him to.

“I’m not the sort of person who runs away, and this isn’t the first time, it’s been happening for quite some time now that we’ve put in performances like this in tournaments, and yes, there are certainly a few fundamental issues which I don’t want to go into right now that need to be addressed, however and in whatever context,” he said.

“But I’m not the sort of person who’s going to sit here and say, ‘I’m stepping down now’ just because we’ve been knocked out. If the DFB (German FA) wants me to carry on, then I’ll carry on; and if they don’t, then they’re free to tell me so.

“I reckon if we were to do a poll today, I probably wouldn’t have that support. But I don’t need to be a fortune-teller to know that either.

“At the end of the day, things can go either way very quickly in football. You just have to win more games than you lose; then the support will be back in no time, and if not, then it won’t.

“But that’s the way it is. I haven’t just made that up; it’s always been the same. Many players in this tournament haven’t done enough, but even otherwise, not everything was done to help.

“But again, I’m confident we can put in better performances and that the support will come back. As I said, I felt good support in the stadium today.”
