Reports in Italy claim that Napoli are keen on the idea of signing Roma loanee Evan Ferguson, and that the Giallorossi are interested in Partenopei winger Noa Lang, but for several reasons, an exchange of players in January looks like a difficult manoeuvre to pull off.

What reports say about Roma, Napoli, Ferguson and Lang

According to reports from Corriere dello Sport, Roma are interested in offering Lang a way out of Napoli just over six months after he arrived.

The Netherlands international joined Napoli from PSV Eindhoven in a deal reported to be worth €25m plus €3m in bonuses during the summer transfer window. He has since struggled for consistent playing time at the Stadio Maradona and is said to be keen on a swift move away from Naples.

Roma, meanwhile, are in the midst of restructuring their attacking department in the January transfer window.

They have already brought in Donyell Malen from Aston Villa and Robinio Vaz from Olympique de Marseille, and there are ongoing rumours that the Giallorossi could also terminate their loan agreements for Ferguson and Leon Bailey in order to clear up more space up front.

Given that the Malen and Vaz deals could end up costing Roma in excess of €50m, putting in a cash offer for Lang, still valued in the region of €27m, seems unlikely.

That means that Roma are looking at the prospect of moving other players on first, and also offering a loan with a future option to buy if they are to proceed with negotiations for Lang.

Meanwhile, Napoli are said to be interested in Ferguson, who has spent the 2025-26 season on loan with Roma with an option to buy for around €40m.

Napoli’s striking department currently consists of Rasmus Hojlund, Romelu Lukaku and Lorenzo Lucca. Lukaku has spent the entire season out injured, and Lucca could potentially be on his way out already, with Pisa and Nottingham Forest among the clubs said to be interested in the Italy international.

This leaves Napoli wanting another centre-forward to add to Conte’s ranks. A deal for Ferguson remains complicated, however, given that he is still only on loan, which means that the Partenopei would likely have to negotiate with both Roma and parent club Brighton.
