Nayef Aguerd Escapes Attempted Assault at Marseille Airport Before Morocco Duty
Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd defender of Olympique Marseille, was the victim of attempted assault at Marseille airport on Monday while preparing to join his national team’s training camp.
According to French reports, the 29 year old was approached by individual in the VIP area who asked for his phone number and photo.
The situation quickly escalated when the man raised his voice and attempted to slap the Moroccan international before security intervened.
Airport security acted immediately, preventing any physical harm to the player. The attacker fled the scene but was later apprehended & questioned by local police. The investigation's ongoing to determine the motive behind the incident.
Through his social media account, Aguerd reassured his supporters saying:
"Fortunately the incident was more frightening than harmful. Everything ended quickly thanks to the security and police. I’m fine now and focused on what matters most .. playing for Marseille and representing my country with pride"..
Since joining Marseille from West Ham United last summer, Aguerd has established himself as a key figure under Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi.
The Moroccan defender has scored 2 goal in 7 appearances and remains cornerstone of the club’s defensive line.
