Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Inter Milan made the decision to recall Denzel Dumfries from international duty after the wing-back reported a minor ankle issue during the November break.
Speaking on the eve of the Netherlands’ final World Cup qualifier against Lithuania, Koeman explained that both Dumfries and Justin Kluivert were withdrawn after discussions with their clubs.
“It’s November – you know how it is,” Koeman said, with quotes via FCInterNews.
“Players have had a heavy schedule, including Champions League matches, so there are more injuries. We wanted to keep everyone available, but the clubs recalled Dumfries and Kluivert. The squad is still fully covered.”

Inter acted out of precaution, keen to avoid any unnecessary risks ahead of next weekend’s derby against AC Milan.
The issue is described as a light ankle problem rather than anything serious.
Therefore, Dumfries is expected back at Appiano Gentile for treatment before rejoining the squad later in the week if recovered.
Nerazzurri head coach Cristian Chivu will be hoping to have the Dutch wing-back fit and available for the Derby.
Especially given the lack of a strong alternative in his absence.
