Wingback Denzel Dumfries will make his first start of the season for Inter Milan against Man City in the Champions League this evening.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Dutchman will get the nod ahead of Matteo Darmian.

Thus far this season, Dumfries has played in every one of Inter’s four Serie A matches.

However, all of the 28-year-old’s appearances have come off the bench.

It has been veteran former Manchester United and Torino defender Darmian who’s played from the start in Serie A thus far.

Darmian was often the starter last season. Particularly in the big matches, the Italian international tended to get the nod.

But Dumfries is certainly banging on the door.

The Dutch international showed the impact that he can have against Monza on Sunday.

It was Dumfries who scored Inter’s equalizer as they salvaged a point.

And according to the Corriere, Dumfries will finally get his chance to play from the first minute.

This will come in a big match.

Inter take on Manchester City to begin their Champions League campaign for the season. Obviously, this is a hugely difficult fixture in which to start.

But Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi is ready to place his faith in Dumfries.

Meanwhile, on the other flank it will be Carlos Augusto to start.

The Brazilian had started in defense against his former team Monza over the weekend.

However, Federico Dimarco is absent this evening due to injury. The Italian picked up a muscle strain against Monza.

Therefore, Augusto will play at left-wingback.
