The Netherlands' World Cup campaign may have ended in heartbreak against Morocco, but the Oranje departed the tournament with one remarkable record still intact.
Ronald Koeman's side were knocked out after a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in the round of 32, meaning the result is officially recorded as a draw. As a consequence, the Dutch have now gone 16 consecutive World Cup matches without suffering a defeat in normal or extra time.
The unbeaten run stretches back to the 2010 World Cup final, when Spain claimed a 1-0 victory after extra time. Since then, the Netherlands have reached the semi-finals in 2014, the quarter-finals in 2022 and the round of 32 in 2026, with their last two eliminations both coming on penalties.
However, their impressive sequence has brought little reward. Despite avoiding defeat across three consecutive World Cup campaigns, the Dutch are still searching for a first world title.
Another notable streak also came to an end against Morocco, as the Netherlands failed to score at least twice in a World Cup match for the first time in seven games.
