Max Eberl is earning brownie points at FC Bayern for a contract extension. The sporting director has apparently gained significant internal respect for his work during the current transfer window.

Just a few weeks ago, Max Eberl’s future at FC Bayern was still considered uncertain. Although his contract runs through 2027, the supervisory board will decide at the end of August on a possible extension of his contract. According to Sport BILD, however, the mood within the club has since shifted significantly in favor of the sporting director.

In particular, the signings of Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown are said to have made a positive impression on Bayern’s executives. Both signed long-term contracts through 2031 and are considered key building blocks for the future of the record champions.

It’s not just the transfers that are impressing the Bayern bosses

According to the report, however, it is not just the fact that Eberl was able to bring the two sought-after players to Munich that is decisive. Internally, the 52-year-old’s approach to the negotiations is viewed particularly positively.

While he was accused in the past of pushing through transfers too independently and involving the supervisory board only at a late stage, this approach is said to have changed fundamentally.

According to the report, Eberl kept decision-makers transparently informed of his plans from the very beginning and brought them on board early on. Coach Vincent Kompany also supported the signings of Saibari and Brown.

In the case of Saibari’s transfer in particular, those in charge believe that FC Bayern’s early action has paid off. Kompany is said to have recommended the attacking player, and Eberl carried out the plan. The fact that the Moroccan subsequently promoted himself further with strong performances at the World Cup further bolstered the internal assessment of the transfer.

However, a final verdict on Eberl’s transfer work is still pending. According to Sport BILD, Bayern’s bosses now expect the sporting director to deliver on the sales side as well, following the significant investments in Saibari and Brown. Revenue from player sales is considered a key factor —both for future squad planning and for Eberl’s prospects of a new contract.
