Peter Gaydarov has found a new role—and, surprisingly, it’s taking him abroad. The former Bayern Munich youth coach is making the leap into professional soccer, working alongside a well-known head coach.

Gaydarov will become an assistant coach at Athletic Bilbao. Working alongside Edin Terzic, who will take over the historic Spanish club for the upcoming season, the 34-year-old is making his debut in professional soccer. As early as April 30, FC Bayern had announced that it was parting ways with its then-U19 coach. For a long time, it remained unclear where he would end up—few likely expected Bilbao to be his destination, as reported by the tz.

Gaydarov spent five years at Säbener Straße in various roles. He served as head coach of the U16 and U17 teams and worked as an assistant coach for the U19s. Over the past two seasons, he was in charge of the A-Juniors and guided numerous talented players on their path to professional soccer.

Players such as Aleksandar Pavlovic, Wisdom Mike, and Lennart Karl are prime examples of the young talents whose development he helped shape at various stages. Gaydarov also left his mark on Nathaniel Brown, who now plays for the German national team: As the U17 coach for 1. FC Nürnberg, he converted the now 22-year-old into a left back. Brown is currently set to transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt to FC Bayern.

Terzic is looking forward to a fresh start in Bilbao

At Athletic Bilbao, Gaydarov will join professionals such as Spanish European champions Nico Williams and Aymeric Laporte. The club finished the past season in twelfth place and is now hoping for a fresh start with Terzic, who has signed a contract through 2028.

The former Dortmund player has already addressed the club’s fans: “Dear Athletic fans. The new season kicks off in a few weeks, and I can’t wait to get back on the field and start working with the team. And the fact that this team is Athletic Bilbao makes me very proud and very happy.”

Terzic added: “I’m really looking forward to seeing and getting to know you all soon and experiencing the atmosphere at San Mamés. Then we’ll start creating unique moments and memories together.” Gaydarov is set to assist him starting next season.
