The future of Chrislain Matsima continues to be a hot topic of conversation. Following recent reports of interest from FC Bayern, Crystal Palace is now said to have set its sights on the FC Augsburg center back as well.
Chrislain Matsima is one of the most sought-after defenders in the Bundesliga. According to the British newspaper The Standard, Crystal Palace is considering signing the 24-year-old Frenchman. According to the report, the Premier League club has the Augsburg player on its radar as a potential successor to Maxence Lacroix, whose future in London is currently up in the air.
However, there are reportedly no concrete negotiations between Crystal Palace and FC Augsburg at this time. In addition, officials at the Conference League champions are exploring several options for their center-back position.
Just a few days ago, the Augsburger Allgemeine reported that FC Bayern had also inquired about Matsima. However, it remains unclear when this inquiry took place and how serious Munich’s interest actually is.
Currently, the German record champions already have several options for their central defense in Jonathan Tah, Dayot Upamecano, Minjae Kim, and Hiroki Ito. It therefore remains to be seen whether Matsima will become a concrete topic of discussion at Säbener Straße this summer transfer window.
The Frenchman himself has so far refrained from commenting on his future. “For now, I’m in Augsburg and don’t want to think too much about the future. I’m focusing entirely on the club here,” Matsima recently told the Augsburger Allgemeine.

FC Augsburg signed Matsima permanently from AS Monaco in the summer of 2025 following a previous loan spell. The transfer fee is reported to have been around five million euros. His contract with the Fuggerstadt club runs through 2030. His current market value is now estimated at 22 million euros.
In the second half of last season, the center back was sidelined by a tendon injury. However, Matsima has since returned to FCA’s preseason training and is working toward his comeback. It remains to be seen whether this will spark a transfer battle between the Bundesliga and the Premier League in the coming weeks.
