Newcastle United and Brighton are reportedly engaged in talks over a deal for Joao Pedro after an initial £50 million bid was rejected.
The Magpies are looking to bolster Eddie Howe’s squad as they prepare to compete in next season’s Uefa Champions League, launching an ambitious £125m triple swoop for Premier League-proven talent this summer.
Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford are among their main targets, but Newcastle are not having much luck with their endeavours.
While Trafford has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Tyneside outfit, Forest rejected their £45m offer for Elanga “without counter”.
Newcastle were also knocked back in their first attempt to sign Pedro as Brighton turned down their opening offer of £50m, according to Sky Sports News.
The Seagulls are notorious for driving a hard bargain, but they are seemingly more willing to do business than Forest. An updated report from the broadcaster claims that “talks are ongoing” between the two sides over a potential deal for the striker.
Additionally, Chelsea have also “held discussions” about possibly signing Pedro. The Brazil international has scored 19 goals and provided nine assists in the Premier League since joining Brighton from Watford for a £30m transfer fee in 2023. Nine of his league goals have come from the penalty spot.
Meanwhile, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Newcastle have an “agreement in place” to sign Rangers forward Alfie Hutchison. The 16-year-old has agreed to personal terms and completed his medical ahead of the move. They beat “several” Premier League clubs to the Scotland youth international, who will officially join the club on July 1.
