Kobbie Mainoo’s lack of minutes is becoming one of Manchester United’s most curious storylines this season. As TalkSport reports, the 21-year-old has once again found himself among the substitutes, even during Sunday’s 3-0 Manchester Derby defeat.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe “is known to be an admirer of Mainoo and would consider testing United’s resolve if the 21-year-old continues to find himself out in the cold.” Mainoo’s teammates are said to be confused by manager Amorim’s reluctance to trust the midfielder. “TalkSPORT has been told even Mainoo’s teammates are perplexed by Amorim’s lack of faith in the player who scored the winner for Man United in the 2024 FA Cup final, and also started for England in that summer’s European championship final in Berlin.”
Despite playing in three of United’s five games across competitions, Mainoo has been named in the starting XI just once, in the EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby Town. His Premier League game time so far stands at only 73 minutes.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly eager to extend Vitor Pereira’s contract despite a difficult start to the season. “Pereira’s current deal expires next summer, although given he is a client of super-agent Jorge Mendes, who has a big influence in the boardroom at Molineux, negotiations are expected to be relatively straightforward.”
Fans have warmed to Pereira since he replaced Gary O’Neil midway through last season, steering the club to safety. Wolves “have failed to take a single point from any of their first four games this term, but the Pereira has plenty of credit in the bank with the club’s hierarchy.”
The challenge is undeniable after summer sales of Matheus Cunha and Rayan Aït-Nouri, plus Nelson Semedo’s departure on a free transfer.
Coventry City are close to securing the long-term future of star playmaker Jack Rudoni. The Sky Blues rejected a significant bid from Southampton during the summer. “Rudoni, 24, is also on the radar of a number of Premier League clubs, including West Ham and Fulham. However, the former Huddersfield ace is happy at the CBS Arena and willing to commit his future to Frank Lampard’s promotion hopefuls.”
Paulo Wanchope, a cult figure in Premier League history, is seeking a management role in England after leaving Costa Rican giants Deportivo Saprissa. Known for his iconic debut goal for Derby County against Manchester United, Wanchope believes his experience makes him well-suited to the English game.
United supporters will be frustrated watching a homegrown talent like Mainoo sit on the bench when he has already delivered on big occasions. The FA Cup final winner deserves a chance to influence games, particularly in a side struggling to assert dominance in midfield. There is a real fear among fans that another top club, perhaps Newcastle, could swoop in and lure him away, turning him into the player United should have built around.
At Molineux, Wolves fans are torn. They have faith in Pereira, remembering how he kept them up last season, yet four straight defeats test that loyalty. Some are urging the board to back him in January, seeing him as the man to lead a longer-term rebuild.
Coventry fans will be relieved to see Rudoni stay put, knowing he is key to Lampard’s promotion push. Meanwhile, neutrals would welcome a Wanchope return, as he remains one of the Premier League’s most entertaining figures from its late-1990s era. The next few months could shape the futures of all four clubs involved, and supporters will be watching closely.
