Some interesting odds on Premier League top four (and other possibilities) for the 2024/25 season where Newcastle United are concerned.

With bookies taking stock after these weekend results, including that NUFC defeat to Fulham.

Newcastle United now with ten wins in their last twelve games (all competitions).

Seven wins from nine in the Premier League.

That defeat on Saturday coming in the twenty fourth PL round of matches.

The bookies and punters reacting to how things now stand in the Premier League table (see below), as well of course, how they are now seeing the underlying strengths of the various teams and squads.

Listed below are the general Premier League odds now (morning of 3 February 2025) available from the various bookies for the 2024/25 season (in brackets are what the odds were after the very opening round of PL games):

Win the Premier League:

1/4 (13/2) Liverpool

7/2 (9/5) Arsenal

100/1 (1,500/1) Forest

150/1 (11/8) Man City

400/1 (40/1) Chelsea

500/1 (40/1) Newcastle United

750/1 (1,000/1) Bournemouth

So Newcastle United now rated sixth most ‘likely’.

At the very top, Liverpool strongfavourites after a comfortable win at in-form Bournemouth, with Arsenal seen by the bookies as the only serious potential threat, having hammered Man City 5-1.

This is how the Premier League table looks today (Monday 3 February 2025):

Premier League relegation:

1/200 (1/1) Southampton

1/6  (1/2) Leicester

1/3 (10/11) Ipswich

5/2 (7/2) Wolves

25/1 (5/2) Everton

14/1 (12/1) Man City

33/1 (20/1) West Ham

50/1 (250/1) Man U

66/1 (250/1) Tottenham

300/1 (7/1) Brentford

250/1 (10/1) Palace

300/1 (40/1) Brighton

500/1 (200/1) Villa

650/1 (40/1) Chelsea

1,000/1 (11/2) Fulham

1,000/1 (7/1) Bournemouth

1,000/1 (250/1) Newcastle United

No offers (3/1) Forest

No offers (2,000/1) Arsenal

No offers (2,000/1) Liverpool

Eddie Howe’s team now seen as joint fourth least likely to go down in the 2024/25 season.

If you are wondering about the Man City 14/1 odds of relegation, this is due to the possibility (probability?) of severe punishment from the 115 Premier League charges they face, which could include amongst other sanctions, points deduction or even relegation. Still waiting for the outcome of that case.

Finish Premier League top four:

1/1,000 (1/2) Liverpool

1/66 (1/9) Arsenal

4/7 (1/7) Man City

4/6 (9/4) Chelsea

7/4 (100/1) Forest

9/4 (9/4) Newcastle United

7/1 (66/1) Bournemouth

25/1 (7/2) Villa

100/1 (11/1) Brighton

100/1 (66/1) Fulham

250/1 (2/1) Man U

250/1 (66/1) Brentford

500/1 (9/4) Tottenham

This is where, like me, I guess you will be giving most focus.

Can Newcastle United bounce back into the Premier League top four and get Champions League football?

Well, the bookies now have NUFC sixth most likely after seven wins in the last nine in the Premier League, following that defeat to Fulham.

Newcastle United level on points and goal difference with Man City, Guardiola’s team in fourth now above NUFC, only on goals scored.

Whilst the top three won at the weekend, we also saw Villa, Man City and Bournemouth with defeats, the same as Newcastle.

Chelsea are on a run of only one win in their last seven PL games, picking up only six points from a possible last 21. They are home to West Ham tonight and the Hammers have managed one win, one draw and one defeat under now boss Graham Potter. Their last match was a credible 1-1 draw at Villa, when West Ham wasted chances to win. So hopefully they can at least get a draw in their derby game tonight against Chelsea.
